Holly Stephey Talks to Dom Liberati and Music!

Liberati’s sound pays homage to his influences, blending The Police with Jimmy Eat World and Kings of Leon. His confessional songwriting connects with anyone pining for a past love or exploring the journey of self-awareness. Produced collaboratively with such partners as Michael Linney (Toby Mac, Michael W. Smith, Ke$ha), Jon Levy and fellow LA rising stars The Daylights, the collection of songs that comprise The Good Hurt eloquently document life, love and the struggle to make sense of them both.       “I have always sought to use my music as a unifying, positive force,” he explains.       A musician since age 12, Dom Liberati got the break of a lifetime in 2009 when Activision chose to use his song “Love Holds it Down” for their massively successful Guitar Hero franchise. Riding the success, Liberati can be found frequently playing legendary venues on the Sunset Strip, including The House of Blues and Whisky A Go-Go. While the uniqueness of being both bassist and front man can be a challenge, Liberati effortlessly commands attention. His seasoned stage presence is owed to the past decade spent as a touring and session bassist as well as touring alongside bands like Lovedrug and Seabird. Liberati’s band features standout players in their own right - Tony Solis on guitar, whose credits include stints with Don Henley and John Legend, and B.C. Taylor, Liberati’s cousin and a standout session player in his own right, on drums. The combination of talent that makes up this trio results in the kind of memorable live show that can’t help but win over an audience.       The Good Hurt is Dom Liberati’s announcement that he is here to stay, so get ready to listen.

Holly Stephey talks to Eric “Monty” Morris is a Ska legend

Eric “Monty” Morris is a Ska legend. He is considered to be one of the Godfathers of Ska. Eric “Monty” Morris is recognized in Jamaica, alongside Laurel Aitken and Derrick Morgan as a primal ska performer. In 1961 he recorded “Humpty Dumpty” providing the vocals to Arkland Drumbago Parks All Star Band’s shuffling beat. The song proved a phenomenal success and is regarded as pivotal in the progress of Jamaican music, introducing the emphasis on the half beat in comparison to earlier local recordings which simply mirrored American R&B. Morris recorded an abundance of hits throughout the first half of the 60s, most notably “What A Man Doeth”, “Sammy Dead”, “Money Can’t Buy Life”, “Into My Garden”, “Enna Bella” and “Oil In The Lamp” . Morris recorded several tracks including “Seek And You Will Find”, “Home Sweet Home” and “River Come Down” for Vincent Edwards. The singer also found success with Leslie Kong who released the favored “Solomon A Gundy” alongside “Strongman Sampson” , while sessions with Neremiah Reid resulted in “Words Of Wisdom”, “Supper In The Gutter” and “Words Of My Mouth”. In the latter half of the 60s several commentators considered that while Morris was an esteemed ska singer he would not adapt to the new sound of rocksteady. Adding the “Monty” tag to his name the singer proved the critics were mistaken with the sublime, “Say I’m Back” and the defiant “Last Laugh”. Raring and ready to go is the best way to describe Eric “Monty” Morris’s current state of mind. With the completion of his first solo album after over 50 years in the industry, Morris is raring and ready. The new album, part of a series called “The Living Legends Collection” The first single from the project, “Into This Beautiful Garden features Sadiki and will be released on March 1st in digital format. The full-length album will be released on March 29th, 2011.

Join me as I talk to Betsy Otter Thompson and her new book Walking Through Illusion... This will be a fantastic show make sure to tune in and call in with any questions you may have for us WALKING THROUGH ILLUSION – Jesus speaks of the People who shared his Journey – features a series of stories about biblical people who either knew Jesus or knew of him, and were influenced by him in one way or another. It is not a book about Christianity; it is about people who lived long before Christianity began. The book makes no attempt to preach religion; the author believes that we don’t take our beliefs with us when we leave here; we take the love we found from having them. The stories are less about the picture these people might have lived and more about the emotions they might have experienced. Each chapter focuses on the growth of a particular person and each chapter is complete within itself with a specific theme. The end of each chapter has a worksheet with questions designed to bring the ideas from the book into the reader’s everyday life in a meaning way. There is also a page at the end of each chapter, where the author shares how that chapter’s theme impacted her life. Holly Stephey Talks to Still Spark and there Music!

Still Spark is the band to watch from Seth Freeman (Little John - EMI) & stellar songwriter Dan O’Leary. Their soon-to-be-released freshman record boasts knockout performances by Michael Eisenstein , Blair Sinta (Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morrissette), Lawrence Katz (Mighty Mighty Bosstones), Joseph Karnes (Five for Fighting, Damien Rice), Linus Dotson (Nerf Herder, Palmdale), Gaby Moreno, and more. It is produced by Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo, Palmdale, At first glance, the two guitars have little in common – one is splashed with boldly colored stickers and battered from years of touring, while the other is shiny and simple, with an air of innocence. Posed side by side, they would seem to suggest an unlikely meeting of very different worlds. And yet it’s exactly this juxtaposition that has created the compelling and energized music of STILL SPARK. After meeting through a mutual friend, the seemingly unlikely pair of long-time musician Seth Freeman (formerly of Boston alt-rock band Little John) and aerospace engineer-turned-songwriter Dan O’Leary began collaborating on the songs that would eventually become Still Spark. Though they were inspired by diverse influences – everything from Van Morrison and Bob Dylan to Weezer and Nirvana – the two found their different backgrounds and styles nevertheless complement each other perfectly. The result is a collection of songs that range from the driving energy of the smirking first single “Love Comes Calling” to quieter, more introspective moments like “Heart O’ Mine,” always bound with a common thread of lyrical storytelling and genuine emotion. Fueled by a successful Kickstarter campaign, the self-titled debut album from the Los Angeles-based duo will be released on March 1, 2011. It was produced by Kay Hanley Palmdale, Michael Eisenstein Blair Sinta Lawrence Katz (Mighty Mighty Bosstones), Joseph Karnes , Linus Dotson (Nerf Herder, Palmdale), Gaby Moreno, and more.

Holly Stephey Talks to Derek Jordan and about his Music!

Derek Jordan is king of individuality. The singer/guitarist from Los Angeles has electrified minds with his original genre, psych alternative rock. Combining psychological lyrics with high energized alternative rock to the likes of Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam, and Stone Temple Pilots, Derek Jordan’s mission is to dissect the thoughts and habits of everyday life. He tells it how it is and expresses how it should be. Derek doesn’t believe in under-living yourself. He doesn’t believe in others making decisions for you. And he certainty doesn’t believe in conformity. What he does believe in is choosing your own path in life, pursuing your own passions, and forming your own opinions regardless of what you’ve been “taught”. There are no “rules” you have to follow in life. Certainty, security, and social customs are all made up. They don’t exist. They’ve been embedded in your minds through fear and avoidance of pain, resulting in the distortion of pleasure, adventure, and freedom that life is meant to be. It is a common conception that you can’t get what you want out of life and that greatness only comes from luck. This is absolutely absurd to Derek. This social mindset has plagued the mind and suppressed quality of life. Psychology is behind everything. You are your thoughts, habits, emotions, and actions. Everything you say and do has a direct impact on your life. Derek Jordan injects this fuel into his lyrics. With the instrumental aspects, he fuses a collection of blues rock, swing, folk and heavy rock elements. You can expect Derek Jordan’s music to be unpredictable and ever-evolving as he continues his musical quest and personal mission to awaken and enlighten individual minds. To Derek, individuality is what is missing and he wants you to reclaim it.

Holly Stephey Talks to Peter Sterling And the Music of Angels!

There have been timeless musicians throughout history whose hands seem to be guided by unseen forces. Possessing unexplainable musical genius, the exquisite beauty of their songs have delighted and mystified audiences the world over, somehow connecting us closer to heaven. Peter Sterling is one such musical treasure. A harpist of world-class skill, Peter's eclectic music continues to touch the lives of thousands around the world. His unusual and inspiring story truly began during a series of life-altering divine encounters while living outdoors in the peaceful solitude of Sedona, Arizona's Red Rock canyons. Spending countless hours at its sacred vortex sites practicing yoga and meditation amidst the brilliant scenery and vast silence, Peter one day experienced a genuine spiritual vision of angelic beings in a heavenly choir surrounding him. In this profound vision, Peter saw himself strumming a harp and allowing divine music to flow through him. Although Peter showed considerable musical talent as a child, having played the piano by ear and then dabbling with the flute and guitar over the years, music had not been a prevalent part of his life. Overwhelmed by the grandeur of this angelic experience, Peter waited for the next series of synchronicities to guide his choices. A week later, Peter met an accomplished harpist who was selling a Celtic harp. Quickly acquiring the instrument and receiving one brief music lesson, Peter retreated back to the canyons to allow the music of the harp to flow through him. Immediately his prayers were answered as he began to instinctively strum chords and simple melodies. "It was as if my hands knew what to do," . It wasn't long before the beginning melodies matured into distinct songs, closely resembling the heavenly tones he once heard among the silence of the canyons.
