Holly Stephey Talks to Gary Montalbano Conceptual Designer, Visual Development Artist, Publisher

Since his early childhood in Chicago, Illinois, Gary Montalbano has always had a passion for art, design and storytelling. Inspired to create characters and worlds that have not existed before, Gary now works as a conceptual designer, development artist and art director. His professional design work and published personal art have been influential in projects for major live action and animation entertainment studios such as Marvel Entertainment (Hulk Vs., The Invincible Iron Man, G.I. Joe: The Movie), Warner Bros. (Batman the Animated Series, Young Justice, Green Lantern: First Flight, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies), Film Roman/Starz (Dead Space - various projects for this title, Mortal Combat, The Mask), Dreamworks (Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Invasion America), Sony (Men in Black: The Series), and more than 100 other projects including: Fern Gully, Ghostbusters 2, Quantum Leap, and clients including: ILM (Industrial, Light and Magic,Lucas Film Ltd.), Rhythm & Hues, Nickelodeon and Universal Studios. Gary is also an independent publisher who has recently released his first art and design book, “Memories within Dreams: The Art and Concepts of Gary Montalbano,” along with numerous fine-art lithographic prints. He has also taught classes on visual development design, lectured on art, design and self-publishing, and has had over 40 group and solo exhibitions promoting his personal artwork.
