Jesse Frohman ,Kurt Cobain: The Last Session and so much more!

While earning a degree in economics at the University of Michigan, Jesse Frohman picked up a camera and never put it down. When he returned home to New York, he had no formal training or experience, but he did have a portfolio of platinum prints, which caught the interest of legendary photographer Irving Penn, who hired Jesse to manage his studio.Jesse has photographed countless celebrities and still lifes. His work is also in many private collections. Jesse lives and works in New York. And whilst he may have shot everyone from James Brown to Woody Allen, The Stroke to Diane Von Furstenberg for Vogue, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone, it’s his iconic portraits of Kurt Cobain, shot in New York in 93 that linger longest in the memory. One of Kurt’s last ever photoshoots before his untimely passing. It’s now being commemorated by ONETSHIRT for a new capsule collection On the 20th anniversary of his death, a powerful portrait of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana including many previously unpublished image taken during their last formal photo shoot . In August 1993, when Nirvana was in New York to perform at the legendary Roseland Ballroom, Jesse Frohman photographed them for the London Observer’s Sunday magazine Over the course of ninety photographs, Cobain seems an almost feral creature, by turns gentle, playful, defiant, suffering, or absorbed in his music. There’s a diverse range of shots of Cobain with fellow band members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl and on his own, posing, performing, and greeting fans. Jon Savage’s original interview, which appeared with Frohman’s photographs in the Observer is also reproduced, giving us Cobain in his own words. The book is a touching tribute to Cobain twenty years after his tragic demise, and following Nirvana’s recent induction in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The book contains 90 illustrations, 25 in color.

AARON LEE TASJAN - IN THE BLAZES New Music !

In December 2014, Tasjan spent a week recording In the Blazes at New Monkey Studio in Los Angeles, the same hallowed space where Elliott Smith cut his final record From a Basement on the Hill. At the helm for the sessions was Tasjan’s good buddy Eli Thomson of the band Everest, whom he’d met on tour while pulling a stint with Brooklyn indie-folk outfit Alberta Cross, and who produced Delta Spirit’s Ode to Sunshine. “Eli is a very grounded dude, personality-wise—he has a zen way of being,” Tasjan says. “On a subconscious level, that’s a comforting thing to be around during the creative process. You’re relaxed enough to try new things and blow it. And for better or worse, part of my thing is messing up—I have to mess it up first to do it great. Really, that idea permeates my life, far beyond being a songwriter,” Tasjan explains. “I always identify with the underdog. Some people, if you look at ‘em, you wouldn’t think much of them, but then they surprise you. It turns out there’s something about them that blows your mind. And that’s kind of the overarching theme of most of the songs on In the Blazes.”Truth in advertising—In the Blazes finds Aaron Lee Tasjan more than just one toke over the line. But it’s cool. The charmingly self-deprecating underdog of an East Nashville songwriter can handle his shit. Instead of the munchies, young gun Tasjan—who cut his teeth playing lead guitar in late-period incarnations of The New York Dolls and Drivin N Cryin—wound up with one hell of a debut LP. http://aaronleetasjan.com

Holly Stephey talks to Luke Potter; New single ‘Ready Or Not’ Drops Oct 30 2015

I like to tell a story that sends a message often this is about being the person you want to be. I hope people will listen to my songs and be able to relate to them.Luke is a young artist / songwriter from the UK who’s starting to make a buzz with his songs. He cites “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls as the song that, the moment he heard it playing, made him realize he wanted to be a songwriter.Shortly after, at the age of 17, Luke picked up an acoustic guitar for the first time and started writing songs not only about love but also about growing up.  Other artists that have influenced Luke include the likes of Jimmy Eat World, Jason Mraz, Fountains of Wayne, Goo Goo Dolls and the music of his father who played in bands way back when. “exciting hearing such a fresh new and exciting talent like Luke.I was thrilled with the reaction to my last single, ‘Do You Love Me (Yet)’. Aside from being Record of the Day here in the UK it got quite a bit of radio play out there and feedback to the video was amazing! Over 40k views and still getting plays! And it’s time for the follow-up so I’m releasing my new single, ‘Ready or Not’ on October 30th, 2015 through iTunes, Amazon, Spotify etc. It’s a song that I co-wrote and recorded in my home studio with my good friends from Stockholm, Marcus and Hjalmar, just a few months ago. The video was all shot in my home too! Anyway, it’s a bit different in that it’s pop rock with a bit of funk too. The video for the single will be out on October 26th. It’s a fun homage to my film adventure heroes. We had a lot of fun shooting it and thanks to all my friends that helped out and to Ross Dixon who directed it.I’m keeping pretty busy with lots of writing sessions in London for a new project, which I hope to tell you more about soon. And there’ll be another single out early in the New Year when I’ll be doing shows too!

Chris Stein New Book"Negative – Me, Blondie and the Advent of Punk "

Though Harry is the breathtaking face and indelible voice of Blondie, she will be the first to acknowledge Stein’s central role in the development of the band as songwriter, guitarist, and visionary thinker. As Harry has said, “The singer is always a recognizable factor but oddly I don’t think Chris gets noticed as a guitarist. His musicality and the way he plays guitar is really an underlying strong part of Blondie.“We were living very much in the moment,” says Chris Stein of his early days in Blondie as he discusses the trove of photographs he’s taken since the start of the seventies. Though best known as an innovative guitarist and groundbreaking songwriter, this Roll Hall of Fame inductee has been equally passionate about, and devoted to, photography. The proof of his acuity as a visual artist is in ample evidence throughout his beautifully rendered coffee-table book, Negative – Me, Blondie and the Advent of Punk, which documents his life back stage, off stage, on the road and at home. Looking at the images, many of them printed in evocative black and white, he says, “There is time travel-esque quality to it, of freezing a moment in time. There really isn’t another art form that does that.”The cross- currents of Stein’s multi-cultural pursuits are all on display in Negative, along with images of seminal figures from the seventies and eighties whom he had befriended: artist Jean Michel Basquiat, designer Stephen Sprouse, hip hop personality Fab Five Freddy Braithwaite,  saxophonist  James Chance and his muse Anya Phillips, and, of course, Andy Warhol. Above all, Negative –as with so much of the music of Blondie – is a paean to the most enduring creative relationship in pop music: the collaboration between Harry and Stein.  It was Stein was gave the world its first photographic glimpses of that ravishing, now iconic face.

The City Winery with New York City , Chicago, Napa , Nashville , Atlanta

Shlomo lives and breathes for music and works hard to bring interesting, diverse and exceptional talent to City Winery's stage. A member of the core team that founded City Winery in 2008, Shlomo is a well-recognized figure in and around the venue. When he isn't perfecting his Shlo-Mullet hair, rambling in Hebrew or blasting his latest music discovery in the office, he is busy making concerts happen - often 5 days or more per week! Shlomo also books external productions and benefit concerts with Michael Dorf Presents, including the famed NYC venues Carnegie Hall, Central Park SummerStage, The Apollo and much more. When he is not in music mode, he plays for the Israeli Baseball team as the starting pitcher.City Winery is the brainchild of Michael Dorf, founder of the iconic Knitting Factory, one of New York’s longest running music venues, wanted to create a space in Manhattan where he could combine his shared passions for wine and music. How was the idea conceived? After making his first barrel of wine in California with his brother Josh and wine maker David Tate, formerly of Ridge Winery and now at Barnett Vineyards, Michael caught the bug: "For a long time I'd been enjoying wine as a fan-drinking it, taking classes, attending wine dinners-but it was not until I actually started participating in the process of working with the grape, turning it into wine, putting it into a bottle, and watching it develop over time, that I really started to understand wine. And when I would give my friends a bottle of wine with my name on it, most would respond by saying: 'I wanna do that too!' It was this experience that led Michael to conceptualize and start working on the City Winery business plan in 2006.

Holly Stephey & Ron Aprea ! New CD "Ron Aprea pays tribute to John Lennon!

Ron Aprea is extremely accomplished in his field for a guy who didn’t know what a saxophone was when he first started out. That’s right – one of the most talented (yet somehow under the radar) saxophone players around thought he was going to be playing clarinet. Ron grew up in Astoria, NY and clearly remembers seeing Pete Fountain playing the clarinet on television. Inspired to play, Ron went to his elementary school band director, Mr. Cahill, and asked to play  what he thought was Pete’s instrument, a saxophone. So that’s what the school gave him. That little mistake has given the world of Jazz an artist that contributes to the genre with exceptional skill to this day. John Lennon's life and artistry were taken from us in 1980, he left behind a treasure trove of musical masterpieces.Ron worked on Lennon's  Walls and Bridges album.  In 2014, Ron searched the former Beatle's library, and now pays a long-overdue tribute to the musical genius of  John Lennon. On Lennon's  Walls and Bridges album, John used 5 horns, dubbing them "Little Big Horns."  Ron's tribute also includes a horn section, along with a string ensemble, and added guest soloists.  The guest artists include trumpeter extraordinaire Brian Lynch, virtuoso violinist Matt Aprea,  jazz guitar veteran Dom Minasi, and a cameo performance by jazz vocalist Angela DeNiro.  Another special guest is trumpeter Steve Madaio, a fitting addition to this album, as Steve was also a member of the Walls and Bridges' Little Big Horns.  This collaboration is a mystical moment on this tribute, as Steve and Ron reunite in  a heart-felt tribute to their former bandleader,  with a stunning rendition of  Lennon's "Imagine".

The International Day of Peace Vigil is a global undertaking that requires the efforts of many people of all faiths and beliefs to be successful. Red Velvet Media encourages you to support the United Nations' call for a full day of global ceasefire on 21 September by observing the day in spiritual contemplation for peace, global ceasefire and nonviolence with other members of your community and/or the broader interfaith community. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All” which aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace. The work of the United Nations would not be possible without the initial partnerships that were active in its creation and the thousands of partnerships each year between governments, civil society, the private sector, faith-based groups and other non-governmental organizations that are needed to support the Organization in achieving its future goals. The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly to coincide with its opening session, which was held annually on the third Tuesday of September. The first Peace Day was observed in September 1982. The United Nations invites all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities during the Day, and to otherwise commemorate the Day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace. In the words of John Lennon, Give Peace a chance.

Reed Foehl, “Lost in the West” New Music!

Billy Conway, who played drums in my parents’ band, and the rock band Morphine, took me aside one night and asked me when I was going to start writing my own songs. I thought that was a pretty good question.” So Reed got to work, and in his late teens. After a move to Colorado, Reed’s clear tenor, emotional songwriting, and undeniable charisma as a front man launched Acoustic Junction in 1989, which developed a cult following in the jam- band era of the 90s. The band released six albums, a collaboration with Graham Nash, and was signed to Capricorn Records and later Mercury Records. Reed found a new kind of success in short trips once or twice a year to Los Angeles, New York and Nashville that earned him placements on the silver screen, television, and commercials. Heput what money he could from the royalties to make three solo records: Spark (2004), Stoned Beautiful (2007), and Once an Ocean (2009) Country legend Lee Ann Womack’s September 2014 release leads with his song “Fly.”Lost in the West is a soundtrack for the invisible cinema of the mind. It features seven songs combining Reed’s powerful lyrics and vocal performance set against wide-open landscapes painted with Stratocaster and Wurlitzer. A deeply talented and accomplished cast joins Reed as producers, performers, and co-writers on this record.  John also delivers a masterful performance on percussion, and Jefferson’s varied guitar work shines throughout the record. Anaïs Mitchel  sings on “Rags and Bones” and “Four Lanes.” Frazey Ford appears on “Caroline” and “Steal Away.” Reed co-wrote “Caroline” with Esmé Patterson, founding member of Paper Bird, and he teamed with Gregory Alan Isakov to write “Rodeo Clown.”The choices Reed has made earned him the respect of his industry peers on one hand, and his loved-ones on the other.

Morrison Hotel Gallery, Aaron Zych . Fine art music photography.

The Morrison Hotel® gallery is about people. Founded in 2001 by former record company executive and producer Peter Blachley, music industry professional Richard Horowitz, and music photographer Henry Diltz, The Morrison Hotel® Gallery, which represents world renowned photographers, has grown to become the place to purchase fine art music photography. As you view some of the most inspiring and iconic images of music and musicians photographed over the last fifty-plus years, think about the people who existed on both sides of the lens. The photographers had no idea what they were creating or how historic the imagery would become. It is a one-second click of the shutter that creates a timeless moment in our lives.   From a very early age Aaron has had a deep understanding and appreciation of photography. Not only has he been with Morrison Hotel Gallery for 10 years, but he has been instrumental in the curation of over a hundred shows here.  Aaron works hand and hand with each of the represented photographers to cultivate the emotional experience that the art deserves. He is closely involved with the overseas markets creating the same real time experience as if one was standing in the actual SOHO gallery space.  Before settling down in New York, Aaron was on the West Coast immersed in its diverse art scene. He now lives in Brooklyn with his wife.
