Hunter Thompson The Cozumel Diary by Al Satterwhite

The Cozumel Diary running amuck with the King of Gonzo, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, in Mexico and other weird tales By Al Satterwhite. Al's own words, Hi! My name is Al Satterwhite, I've been a photographer since I was in high school shooting for major publications such as Life Sports Illustrated & Time Magazine. My career gave me an opportunity to get to know some of the major personalities & icons of our culture. Little did I know what was in store for me when I met, and became friends with, the one and only gonzo journalist, Hunter S. Thompson. Hunter and I became friends back in the early 70's when I first met him at the Republican Convention in Miami Beach. We were both there covering the event for different magazines he for Rolling Stone me for Newsweek.Hunter and I hit it off so when Playboy wanted to interview Hunter in 1974 he insisted I be assigned to photograph the event. I knew this wasn't going to be an ordinary gig. Hunter and I met up in Cozumel, a small island off the coast of Yucatan, Mexico. From the moment we got together until the work was finally submitted to Playboy, mischief and mayhem ensued. Not only did I capture Hunter photographically, I captured the experiences we shared together  and what a ride it was including the start of 'the Great Shark Hunt'  I'm publishing is the story of that trip. Since Hunter and I continued our relationship I'm adding a few other Hunter stories that were most definitely warped as only Hunter could be whenever he came to visit me in Florida. Tales involving the Secret Service, drugs, stopped for speeding in Palm Beach , a harpoon gun and more. The phone would ring and off to some crazy adventure we would go.With so much material, I've put a high quality photographic book together to share those stories along with many of the never before seen photos that I took of Hunter.http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1934661728/hunter-thompson-the-cozumel-diary

Xany Rudoff is a Los Angeles-based artist who has been working as a professional painter for the past ten years. May 4, 2013 The Ward- Nasse Gallery located in Soho, NYC is proud to present an exhibition of artist Xany Rudoff "Iconic Illuminating Album Cover Paintings" will be Xany's first solo show in New York City. Her current work, the “Icon Series”, features vintage album covers that have been painted and embellished using 24 carat gold leafing Renaissance and Byzantine era techniques to affect the look of religious icon paintings. In these works, Xany explores the idea of the iconic by using found albums such as David Bowie’s, Aladdin Sane” and Led Zeppelin’s, Houses Of The Holy” amongst many others, and applies gold leaf to the album’s surface, followed by extensive burnishing, painting and lacquering techniques in the same time honored tradition of the Old Masters. She transforms the covers into beautiful, luminescent "Icons" that reflect the modern day "worship" of classic albums & musicians of today. The result is a breathtaking series of work that glow with the burnished luster of a church fresco, but are intimate and personal in size and image. Rock and roll icons are made magnificent in a work that is at once transcendent and familiar and take the ordinary into the extraordinary.http://www.xanyart.com/

Holly Stephey and Lewis Ray Cammarata

Cammarata grew up playing in club bands (started on the Stax/Volt catalog) in Baltimore, MD. At 17 he was afforded the privelege of recording 2 singles on the local Bay Sound label with the 'semi-legendary' George Massenberg producing. In 1974 he relocated to Los Angeles for the express purpose of becoming a rock star. The Zippers (1976 to 1981). This was anti-disco/corporate hair band time in LA. The best description of The Zips is they were kinda the unholy offspring of The Kinks and Cheap Trick . The band released a single on Backdoor Man Records in '78, and a subsequent Ray Manzarek produced 6 song EP on Rhino in '81 just before they  imploded.Cammarata used the next 5 years  establishing a new career in production and musical prostitution. This afforded him the opportunity to work with new and established artists; playing guitar, doing background vocals, arranging... whatever. From this grew a nice referral list of pro players hired for 'one-shot' parts. The result was a succession of reciprical session work with guys like sax man Cornelius Bumphus, violinist David Green, pianist Mike Garson, and a whole boatload of interesting and 'art-for-art's-sake' musicians. After a self-imposed 20 year hiatus Cammarata found himself in Phoenix. These days Cammarata performs with partners The New Brothers; a stripped-down, 3 man, guitar/vocal trio. The songs have taken on a new interprative persona live; mostly because, as Cammarata puts it... "The songs are what they are; naked. I expect my bandmates to dress them as the situation demands. Obviously, playing with guys like Charlie (Dickens) and Reggie (Chavez) makes this intuitive.... it's intentional."His music has been described as "An amalgam of gutter-blues, spaghetti-western mastication, and late night innuendo".

Holly Stephey & Roxanna Unforgotten & debut album “Exotica”

This Canadian singer-songwriter is a breath of fresh air emerging with a Latin flair from a cultured background, distinguishing herself from contemporary artists. Joining forces with Mark Portmann, known for working with Michael Buble and Barbara Streisand, Roxanna has produced a polished and luxurious rich sound.  Her upcoming album release will provide a seamless, mastered mix of adult contemporary, classic pop, world, and a taste of flamenco.  Her first single though provides a little preview of Roxanna’s sultry vocals that make her truly “unforgettable”. “Unforgotten” takes you on a personal journey of an empathetic story, with her accompanied music video. Featuring Days of Our Lives actor, James Scott, the direction perfectly fits with the dramatic storyline and emotional lyrics.  Roxanna teamed up with industry pros producer Matthew Rolston, credited for working with Michael Jackson, Beyonce, and Jewel -- the video transports you back to the stylish 50s. Just from the first few bars of music, you’ll be mystified by the music…the guitar rhythm invites you to continue to listen to this story she is singing to you.  This song is truly universal, anyone that has experienced heartbreak will be able to identify with the message.Roxanna entered into the music world wanting to pay homage to Julio Iglesias (even covering his song “Como Tu” for the first time heard in the English version “Only You” on her album Exotica due out in February 2013).  Spain and the country’s music also inspired Roxanna in what she wanted to achieve creatively.  Because of her love for Spanish culture, she has decided to release an alternate Spanish version of “Unforgotten (Para Siempre).”http://www.roxannamusic.com

Holly Stephey & Jeff Campbell Stop and Go Live at Coast DVD

Jeff Campbell is a natural, and any lover of music can see that when performing, he is doing what he was born to do. Jeff’s onstage experiences have found him sharing the stage with members of Counting Crows, Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead and opening for Grammy-winning band Train. Early 2012 saw the release of Campbell’s first-ever acoustic album, "Stop and Go". With this album, Jeff fulfilled his promise to stay true to the songwriting style that P&B fans have come to know but also to test some boundaries with production, approach and style. "Stop and Go" also boasts guest performances from several of the Bay area's finest musicians, including Megan Slankard, Brad Brooks, Austin Wilacy and James Deprato, who not only offered their performance talents, but also lent their hands with songwriting, arrangements and production.SF Recording and Mastering engineer Michael Romanowski approached Jeff in early Feb 2012 and said he wanted to start a live recording/DVD series from Coast Recorders, a staple SF recording studio that has been around for decades that he recently took over. He asked Jeff if he would like to be his pioneer act, recreating his entire last album (Stop and Go) from start to finish, totally live, in front of an invited studio audience. Jeff said heck yes, put an email out to my mailing list asking who would be interested, the response was overwhelming and we filled the room with the first 75 RSVPs, a 4 camera crew and full audio crew on Feb 26 and filmed and recorded it. They captured the full essences of a live, in studio performance of a record that had many tracks on the studio version initiially. We had fun Stop and Go Live at the Coast Primer DVD party this Friday at 111 Minna Gallery, San Fran, Ca Link to event https://www.facebook.com/events/206868272777784/

Holly Stephey & Richard Glazier extraordinaire!

Every artist has an epiphany. For classically-trained, award winning pianist Richard Glazier, it happened at age nine, when he saw the film “Girl Crazy” with a score by George & Ira Gershwin.  So excited was he by the music he heard, Glazier was prompted to write a fan letter to famed lyricist Ira Gershwin. After corresponding with each other for three years, Gershwin invited his young friend, then 12 to meet him in Beverly Hills. During their visit Ira asked Glazier to play a Gershwin tune on the piano that once belonged to his brother legendary composer George Gershwin.  Fueled by Ira's encouragement and interest, Glazier dedicated himself that very day to the Gershwin repertoire and the American Popular Songbook, eventually becoming one of the genre's leading authorities..Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Glazier began studying piano when he was 6 years old. Trained in the classics, Glazier earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Piano Performance from Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington, where he studied with famed pianist and teacher, Menaham Pressler, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Music. In addition to Ira Gershwin's blessings, Glazier has received the Alumni Achievement Award from the Cleveland Institute of Music for his contributions to the American Popular Song.  He also won several major international piano competitions including the Pro Musicis International Award and the National Federation of Music Clubs' Grand Prize.  He also was selected as a Steinway Artist.Glazier's concerts have inspired two national television specials: "From Gershwin to Garland A Musical Journey With Richard Glazier, which was broadcast on PBS stations throughout the country in 2010&  "From Ragtime to Reel Time Richard Glazier in Concert, which starts airing on PBS stations in March 2012.

Holly Stephey and Margo Rey new CD "Habit"!

Organica Music Group is pleased to announce the release of Margo Rey’s highly anticipated CD, Habit. The album features Margo’s new Top 20 charting single “Between Us,” as well as her recent hit song “Let the Rain.” The latter, co-written by Ms. Rey In addition, Margo is preparing for her upcoming national holiday tour with Dave Koz, which is certain to please her diverse and loyal fan base. The album unleashes thirteen songs, all of which are original. One exception is a gorgeous cover of The Zombie’s hit, “She’s Not There.” If you think you’ve heard the song before, think again. This version has more down-under burn than most people can handle. But it gets better. Ms. Rey will be on tour. So hang on. Or, better yet, let yourself go www.MargoRey.com Reflecting on the direction of Habit Margo explains: “I wanted something ‘lo-fi’ as opposed to the cloned sounds of today’s pop culture environment. I needed my music to sound like me rather than the equipment it was recorded on. Plus, I feel a huge affinity  love affair even for the singer/songwriter era of the seventies and eighties.” Ms. Rey employed a technique as simple as it is novel in today’s recording environment. She gathered extraordinary musicians in a room and they recorded (equally extraordinary) music together. If that doesn’t sound radical, it should and Habit underscores the point. It’s a CD that never leaves the human vibe behind. It revels in it and, if anything, deepens it.
