SUKHAWAT ALI KHAN represents the family lineage of the 600-year-old Sham Chorasi traditional school of music, which was established during the reign of Emperor Akbar of India. His training in both classical raga and Sufi Qawwali singing began at the age of seven under his father, legendary Pakistani/Indian vocalist Ustad Salamat Ali Khan. A San Francisco Bay Area resident, Sukhawat teaches this musical style and performs concerts for dance and world music lovers everywhere.
A master of Classical Indian and Pakistani music, including Raga and Qawwali styles, his singing and harmonium playing are of a very high standard. He is available for large and small gigs, with various configurations of small or larger bands. He also is a master teacher of singing in the Qawwali and classical Indian styles. Sukhawat Ali Khan is a very entertaining and warmly charismatic performer and can get a room full of people on their feet dancing, or at times, or bring a very spiritual tone and message to his audience, and even move his listeners to tears with the emotional depth of his music.
